Anthroposcene seeks to develop a visual record so scholars can analyze how a certain group of people are seeing and interpreting climate change and the concept of the anthropocene. The project uses Instagram to collect photos tagged with #anthropocene, #climatechange and #climatechangeisreal and encourages researchers and the public at large to add these hashtags or #climatechangeme to their relavant photos so scholar can study how we see the changing climate conditions around us.
Project History
In Fall 2015, a group of graduate students in the Humanities used Lentil to collect Instagram photos hashtagged with #climatechange and #anthropocene to analyze humans’ reactions to the changing environment. See the results of the data retrieval here: http://anthroposcene.trinity.duke.edu/. The project was organized by graduate students in various disciplines at Duke University.
