The Virtual and Augmented Reality Digital Humanities Institute (V/AR-DHI) is a two-week summer institute at Duke University for up to 12 participants to take place from July 23-August 3, 2018. The Institute is supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, and will be focused on the application of VR and AR to humanities research, teaching and outreach. Institute activities will include a combination of critical and scientific readings, demonstrations, and discussion, hands-on development workshops, informed critiques of existing projects, and group project implementation and reflection. Participants will discuss best practices, optimal workflows, and strategies for collaboration, both on their own projects and with each other as an emerging community of practice.
Our target audience is academic researchers in humanistic disciplines who have begun to work in the area, though technologists working in the field are also welcome to apply. Substantial grants will be available to support on-site housing and travel costs for the selected participants.
